New aluminium bearings

Caravel
has just started the manufacturing of a new type of hydrolubricated bearing with the outer shell made of aluminium.
These bearings have been designed and manufactured for aluminium boats (sailboats and vessels in aluminium): all the dimensions which are included in Caravel's price list are always available in our stock and ready for shipment. A more interesting price (if compared with resin) and shorter delivery time, even for bearings not immediately available in our stock, are the most important points to consider.

The outer shell is made of anticorodal 6060 (UNI 3569 AL Mg Si): it has a good resistance to corrosion, very good mechanical properties and is particularly fit for anodizing processes and for marine applications (you can find here more detailed information: http://www.migliarialluminio.it/Migliari/6060.htm.

The anodizing of the outer shell of each bearing reaches a depth of 10 micron and during internal tests and quality controls these hydrolubricated bearings have revealed an excellent mechanical and chemical behaviour.

The resistance of the chemical attack between aluminium and rubber has been carefully tested according to all the required controls which an ISO 9001 certified company has to fulfil.

The aluminium and rubber hydrolubricated bearings have been already mounted on vessels and big aluminium boats, with great satisfaction for our customers.
This product is the final point of years of tests to find new materials for marine applications with a good quality and an interesting price.

What's new: the fantastic Caravel Puller-Fitter

Designed and built by Caravel, the new PULLER-FITTER for bearings is a fantastic solution to pull out a bearing from the shaft and to fit a new one in the same position.

It is a manually operated hydraulic machine which does not require any dangerous operation such as the removal of the shaft.
It is fast and efficient and a boon to the busy boatyard.
The shaft remains in situ, the bearing can be extracted and a new bearing fitted in minutes. What can take days completed in a fraction of the time without damage to housing or shaft.
Simple and practical to operate, no bearing can resist its compelling thrust.

Technical application
The equipment is designed to accept 2 basic size kits which cover bearing shell diameters up to 100 mm (outer diameter).

The kits are as follows:
T8 - for bearings with outer diameter not greater than 58 mm (shaft about 45 mm)
T13 - for bearings with outer diameter between 58 mm and 100 mm (shaft about 50-80 mm)
The above metric sizes are fully interchangeable with imperial sizes.

Optional size kits
One basic kit is standard - please advise which kit is required for your operation. With each kit will be supplied 2 half bearings guides and 2 guide blocks.

Here below some short clips can help you to understand how easy, fast and safe the CARAVEL PULLER-FITTER is:

The CARAVEL PULLER-FITTER can also be used by scuba divers underwater.

YOU CAN SEE THE CARAVEL PULLER FITTER BY OUR STAND AT THE GENOVA BOAT SHOW EXHIBITION. YOU CAN GET THERE SOME TECHNICAL PAPERS ABOUT THIS FANTASTIC MACHINE.

Caravel at the 48th Boat Show Exhibition in Genova

Caravel is going to take part as an exhibitor in the 48th edition of the INTERNATIONAL BOAT SHOW in Genova (4th –12th October).

The exciting experience of the Boat Show began in the 1980’s when Caravel could at last be rewarded for its reliability in manufacturing bearings and chromium-plated bushes: this regular participation is for us a prize. Caravel's mechanical production started in the 1950’s and the presence to such an important exhibition is now considered as a great chance to show its bearings and the most important technical news.

Our stand will be located in the C Pavilion - Upper Floor, Stand M19.

By our stand you will find many different bearings with different dimensions and outer shells in different material.
You can also compare bearings with axial channels and bearings with involute channels (which allow a better shaft cooling and lubrication).
Our engineers can also show you the new line of aluminium bearings, which were planned and manufactured to grant a better antigalvanic function for aluminium hulls. Their prices and delivery time are certainly interesting if compared with resin.

The most important innovation of the year is the bearing PULLER-FITTER.
Designed and built by Caravel, this tools is a fantastic solution to pull out a bearing from the shaft and to fit a new one in the same position.
It is a manually operated hydraulic machine which does not require any dangerous operation such as the removal of the shaft.

Caravel: quality since 1953

CARAVEL s.r.l. was established in 1953 in the industrial area of Milan, Italy.
It manufactures metal and rubber bearings for shafts of ships whose dimensions go from 25 mm up to 600 mm.
The shell is usually made of bronze, brass, stainless steel, aluminium or phenolic resine.
It also manufactures chromium plated bushes used in vertical and submersible pumps. Its products can also be used in power and nuclear plants.
The entire productive process of Caravel is based on a high level quality process, also testified by the Lloyd's Register ISO 9001 certification, obtained in 1996.
Caravel has always thousands of standard pics (in terms of dimensions) ready for shipment in its stock but can also manufacture bearings with any dimension, tolerance and material.
Caravel has manufactured up to now more tha 4,000 different types of bearings and chromium plated bushes according to its customers' requirements.
